On these following pages you will find out how to play different pitches or notes on the recorder. There are videos and pictures to help you with your playing.
FINGER CHARTS
When we learn our finger positions on the recorder we will use a thing called a 'Finger Chart'. A finger chart is a picture of a recorder with black dots covering the finger holes. Whenever a black dot appears over a finger hole it indicates that we must cover the corresponding hole on our recorder with our finger(s). This will be the quickest and easiest way for you to learn how to play all the different notes on a recorder.
REMEMBER your LEFT hand is always at the TOP of the recorder covering the first three holes and your thumb covering the back hole. Your pinky finger doesn't cover any holes but needs to stay relaxed so you can move your hands freely. Your RIGHT hand is always at the BOTTOM of the recorder covering the remainder of the holes with all your fingers and your thumb supporting the instrument from the back.
